Happy Birthday Alan

Happy birthday Alan! We had a wonderful weekend of birthday fun with family and friends and I’m so happy have been able to celebrate another birthday with this gem:

alan4Steiny, I love every second I spend with you and there’s only more amazing times to come. From getting lost trying to find our way to Canada when we first met, to getting lost in the woods for hours the day you proposed – no matter how far off the path we get, we always make it back together laughing. I don’t know how we managed to find each other, but I can’t imagine any other person on earth I would want to spend my life with. I love you so much, hope you have the most wonderful birthday yet.

Gatsby Style

I have absolutely loved The Great Gatsby since we had to read it in school way back in the day, so needless to say, when I learned that a new version of the movie was coming out, I nearly peed my pants. Everything about it oozes luxury and overindulgence. The glam 1920’s style always looks chic and I have a feeling it will be coming back in a major way once the movie debuts. Here are some gorgeous finds you can get ahold of now:

This Week’s Obsession: Herb Gardens

I’m happy to be back home after a busy week last week! Between a business trip which included long days and flight delays, a beautiful rehearsal dinner and wedding for some dear friends this weekend, and lots of catching up to do, I finally had a moment to relax today! I slept in, ran some errands, and started an herb garden.

Since we moved into our apartment last year, Alan and I have talked about growing an herb garden. The summer slipped by last year and winter didn’t exactly seem like an opportune time to start growing anything. But this year it’s on! We went to the store today and are ready to grow some basil, parsley, cilantro, chives and strawberries. I self-admittedly have a knack for killing off plants. No matter how hard I try to grow something, I end up with a rotten looking sprig. I’m feeling pretty confident about my green thumb this year and I can’t wait to see my little seedlings sprout!

Be Back Soon!

Hi friends! I will be away this week in Washington D.C. for a business trip, so I won’t have a chance to post. If you’ve been to a conference before, you know how that goes. See you  next week!

A Sweet Spring Soiree

Spring is such a fresh, fun time of year. Everything is blooming and you get to finally thaw out after the cold of Winter. Sounds like a perfect occasion to throw a lovely get-together! Some must-haves: fresh flowers, crisp cocktails, finger foods, and flowy dresses.

This Week’s Obsession: Soaking Tubs

We all want what we can’t have, right? Well right now I’m wanting a soaking tub. Since we live in an apartment, I refuse to take a bath in our tub no matter how hard I scrub. I get so grossed out thinking of all the people who have bathed in there before me…yuck. But a nice bath is just so great once in a while. Like after a rough day at the gym when all you want to do is relax your muscles. For now, all I can do is dream of a perfect soaking tub for my future home….

Wedding Season Is Upon Us

Spring marks the start of wedding season! It’s amazing being able to be there to share the day with your friends and family, but weddings can be costly. From showers to bachelorette parties to wedding gifts & outfits, it all adds up. Let’s face it, all eyes will not be on you the day of the wedding, but you still want to look nice and feel great (without upstaging the bride, of course). That’s why I love, love, love Rent the Runway. Amazing dresses & accessories that won’t break the bank. Here are my favorites:

This Week’s Obsession: Elie Saab

There is nothing that Elie Saab has created that isn’t absolutely stunning. Every collection he has put out has been so incredibly detailed, delicate and feminine. If I could wear Elie Saab every day of my life I would be one happy girl. Aside from all of the precise details, the shape and flow of each garment is unlike any other designer. I can gush about Elie Saab all day, but I think his work speaks for itself.

Liebster Award

I’ve been awarded a blogger award! The lovely Emily from Sassy in Sequins awarded me a Liebster Award. Thank you so much Emily! What is a Liebster Award, you ask? Copying this word for word from her blog, “The origins of the Liebster Blog award are somewhat unclear but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany, Liebster meaning favorite or dearest, to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. Upon accepting the award, the recipient must then pass it on to five more blogs of note.”

Liebster_zps771b7eed

So, here we go. Here are the rules:

1. Share 11 things about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you.
3. Choose 11 fellow bloggers to nominate (or however many you’d like). The nominees must have under 200 followers. Tell them in a comment in their blog.
4. Think of 11 questions to ask the bloggers you have decided to nominate.
5. Thank the person that nominated you and link back to their blog.

Let’s start with 11 things about myself:

1. I’m one of the few people on earth that don’t like bacon. The flavor just doesn’t do it for me.
2. My dream vacations include Greece, Italy, Barcelona and Dubai.
3. My major in college was music industry.
4. I love being next to water but don’t like swimming in it.
5. I’m always chilly. If you see a girl on the beach wearing a hoodie, come say hello. It’s probably me.
6. I’m afraid of ghosts and spiders. Our current apartment had an infestation of the grossest bug I’ve ever seen last summer. Our neighbors must have hated me with all the shrieking I did.
7. I love salted caramel anything.
8. My favorite way to spend an evening is at dinner with good friends/family, enjoying a glass of wine.
9. I prefer tea over coffee.
10. I haaaate showering. If I could get away with doing it once a week, I would.
11. I usually fall asleep within the first 20 minutes of a movie. Which is why I rarely go to the movie theatre – it always just ends up being an expensive nap.

Here are Emily’s questions for me:

1. Favorite place you’ve ever lived? Where I am now, in Milford, CT. Water views, friendly neighbors, close to the family.
2. What’s your go-to karaoke song? I Saw the Sign by Ace of Base. My childhood dream was to have them play at my birthday party.
3. Are you a routine or “fly by your pants” type of person? A little bit of both, depends on the situation. I’d say more routine than fly by the seat of my pants.
4.  What’s in your purse? What isn’t in my purse! An umbrella, sewing kit, band-aids, lip gloss, clear nail polish, fashion tape, stain remover, wallet, keys, small notepad, sunglasses….I’ll stop there.
5. Favorite drink/cocktail? A Basilic. I had it during a trip to Philly from Parc in Rittenhouse Square. It’s St.Germain, muddled basil, gin, and a few other things that I can’t remember at the moment. If you’re in Philly, go try it. They also have great quiche. When I want to keep it simple though, nothing beats a nice Malbec.
6. Interesting hobby? I’ve played piano since I was 7. I don’t get to play now as much as I used to but I still love it.
7. Guilty pleasure? Real Housewives. Any of them but Atlanta.
8. What do you do to relax? Go for a long walk along the water with my dog, or listen to music & create something (a painting, drawing, craft, whatever).
9. Favorite holiday? Thanksgiving FOR SURE. No worrying about what gifts to buy and eating all day with the family. Nothing gets better than that.
10. If you could choose, what would your last meal be? A baked potato with a side of cucumbers in a dollop of sour cream & salt/pepper.
11. True or False? All is fair in love and war. False.

I’m nominating:

Annie at The Coyote Thistle
Monica at kukkuk.me
Kerryanne and Melissa at Happy Offerings
Allison Dragsten at Thrifted
Sechy at Sechys Diary

My questions:

1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
2. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
3. What is your most prized possession?
4. What is one thing you’ve done that you’re most proud of?
5. What’s your go-to look for a night out?
6. Your biggest pet peeve?
7. What’s one thing you love about yourself?
8. Best thing you ever ate?
9. What’s one of your hidden talents?
10. If you could be anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?
11. Favorite place you’ve traveled to?
